Write It Anyway: Pushing Through Resistance When Life Gets Loud

Let’s be honest—life doesn’t always create the ideal writing atmosphere. Kids need attention. Bills need paying. Your day job is draining. Your energy is low. The spiritual warfare is high. And somehow, your writing assignment from God keeps getting pushed to the back burner.

But hear this: Your calling doesn’t clock out just because life gets loud.

If God gave you the assignment, He also gave you the grace to finish it. And sometimes, writing becomes the very act of spiritual warfare that pushes back the chaos and reclaims your focus.

Here’s how to write through resistance:

  1. Identify the Distraction—but Don’t Surrender to It : The enemy doesn’t need to destroy you—he just needs to distract you. If you keep waiting for “the right time,” you may miss the divine time. Recognize what’s pulling at your attention, and make a decision: I will write anyway.

  2. Don’t Worship the Perfect Conditions : You don’t need a cozy writing cabin or six uninterrupted hours. You need a made-up mind. Some of your most anointed writing will be born in messy moments—on lunch breaks, in the car line, or late at night after the house is quiet.

  3. Remember Why You’re Writing : This isn’t about productivity—it’s about obedience. This isn’t about perfection—it’s about purpose. Go back to the last thing God told you. Has that changed? No? Then keep going.

  4. Set Holy Appointments : Put writing time on your calendar like you would a doctor’s appointment. Show up. Even if the words don’t flow, your presence at the page is a form of faith. God honors consistency.

  5. Grace Over Guilt : If you’ve fallen behind, don’t let shame talk you out of the next sentence. Pick up where you left off. There is fresh grace every day. You don’t owe God perfection—you owe Him your yes.

At iPress, we know what it’s like to balance life and calling. We walk with authors who are raising families, working full-time, battling sickness, or navigating grief. And we remind them: write it anyway.

Not because it’s easy—but because it’s eternal.

Your obedience matters. Your message matters. And someone’s waiting to read what God placed inside you.
